In 1984, designer Klaus Kapitza sketched a shape that felt more like a vision than a car – long, low and commanding. Out of four competing design, his was the one that lingered. That one that moved. Eight years later, in early 1992, the BMW 850 CSi hit the road. V12 under the hood. M engineering in the bones, yet no official M badge – that wasn't the point. A sleeper by design – not by accident. A machine that felt still, even when it moved fast. With 280 kW and a price tag of 180,000 D-mark, it was more than a grand tourer – it was a quiet rebellion against overstatement. It wasn't built to win headlines. It was built to outlive them. The kind of power that doesn't need to prove itself – because it already knows what it is.
